News - Summer 2005

Newsletter Editor Wanted

Thanks to all of you who have sent in articles for the summer e-newsletter! We are still searching for an editor to compose this quarterly, either in print or electronically, so if you are, or know of a talented editor, please, we need your help! Contact any of the Coordinating Committee (email addresses listed in position article following) and we’ll get the ball rolling!

Coordinating Council Update

As affirmed at our membership meeting in May, we’ve added Donna Gibson and Kate Stockman to the CoCo, with Donna to take the new CoCo Registrar job and Kate to replace Alice Kemp, whose term expires this summer. However, due to other obligations, including living in Hurricane Alley (Pensacola, Florida) in a house not yet repaired from Hurricane Ivan last summer, Eleanor Cutts has elected to resign her CoCo position. We understand and accept her decision, and regret the loss of her contribution on the CoCo.

In consideration of the requirements for a full, working CoCo in these times of financial need, Alice has agreed to keep the volunteer coordinator’s position on the CoCo for one more year. Kate will assume leadership of the Outreach Committee for this coming year, working with Donna and an energetic committee to promote WomenSpirit and increase participation for the Fall and future events. Donna will also be handling the Membership Coordinator duties.

All of you are invited to communicate with any of us if you have questions or concerns about or an interest in volunteering for our organization.

Coordinating Council:

Welcome Home to Womenspirit! Submitted by Kate Stockman

At the Praises concert in April, Womenspirit had a golden opportunity to promote who we are to the enthusiastic concert attendees. Our table was beautifully adorned with our t-shirt quilt as well as hand-made items created by our members in tracks and workshops and individually! Thanks to Elizabeth Adams for coordinating this effort, making sure everything looked great, that sisters were there to answer questions, and that everyone received her table treasures back carefully sorted and packed.

Many women received a copy of a new Womenspirit brochure with a theme of Welcome Home. Heather Cramer and Kate Stockman had a happy collaboration on the brochure and artwork. The original artwork Kate created for the cover of the brochure was offered for silent auction at the Spring 05 event. The artwork went to the highest bidder (congratulations to Penny Steffens!) while Womenspirit received the money from the bid.

Many, many thanks to our Womenspirit sisters who supported the cost of the printing of this new Womenspirit brochure! As of newsletter press time, the donors are (in alpha order): Rita Anderson, Kathleen Barnes, Nina Benedetto, Betty Brown, Joan Chesick, Melissa Christopher, Joyce Day, Helen Dixon, Amber Grey, Jody Gundersen, Kay Hall, Claire Little, Lisa Michaels, Rebecca Reeves, Toni Stephenson, Ethel-Marie Underhill, and Kate Wolverton.

Together, we can create miracles! Thanks to everyone who helped make this a successful endeavor in building a stronger Womenspirit community.

Building Our Community, One Sister at a Time Submitted by Kate Stockman

At the Spring business meeting, we discussed the need to more actively promote our organization to women who are seeking a spiritual home focused on the Divine within us all. We agreed that we needed to intentionally distribute our new brochures in order to spread the word most effectively, which will help build our community. So anyone who would like brochures to give to others is welcome to them. Contact Kate Stockman for copies.

We also agreed to brainstorm promotional ideas through a Promotions and Outreach Commitee. The women who volunteered to be on this committee are: Meg Boendier, Deb Brown, Kay-Sea Conklin, Krista Meinersmann, Susan Parkhurst, Helen Rogers, Toni Stephenson, and Kate Stockman. They will offer ideas as well as follow through with actions that we agree upon.

The messages are already buzzing over the internet with these _brainstorms on Cyber Street_! If you have any ideas for promoting Womenspirit to others and time to follow through on ideas, please contact Kate.

We also discussed our website. Elizabeth Adams has been the webmistress for over 2 years now (thanks, Elizabeth!). At the business meeting, Laura Klohberg agreed to work with updating the website as needed. We plan to include the brochure copy and photos on the website soon.

Many thanks for everything each of you does to build community!

Marketing the Fall Event

Please assist Womenspirit in attracting new members by saving, printing and publicly posting the image on the events page that advertises the fall event. You can do this by right-clicking on the image and selecting "save image as." Then print and post in your community where you think like-minded women may be interested in learning about Womenspirit. Everyone's help is appreciated by all!
